WHERE SERVICE MEETS STORY
I am Landon Postell, a 26-year-old Firefighter/Engineer and a student at Kennesaw State University, where my dual life in service and storytelling began to unfold. My academic path started in 2017 at the age of 17, sparking a decade-long journey of evolving interests. My transition from various majors to a highly specialized public service career cultivated a deep-seated devotion to literature and continuous learning. My entry into the English major was defined by a World Literature course on war poetry; the professor and the material opened my eyes to the vast spectrum of the written word, from technical workplace communication to the raw emotion of verse. In 2021, amidst the global recovery from the pandemic, I stepped into the fire service as a rookie. I soon discovered a striking synergy between the firehouse and the classroom. The demands of precise documentation and the intense human emotions found in high-pressure emergency events mirrored the analytical and abstract concepts I studied in my English courses. While these paths might seem disparate to some, the tactical nature of firefighting and the introspective power of storytelling sharpen one another, fueling my unique passion. Both roles provide me with a profound sense of purpose. Today, I am committed to constant self-improvement through my professional service, my academic research, and my deepening understanding of the human narrative.
THE DUALITY OF SERVICE
My career is defined by the synthesis of two seemingly distant worlds: the immediate intensity of the fire service and the reflective depth of literary study. Since joining the fire service in 2021, I have served as a Firefighter/Engineer, a role demanding absolute technical precision. This tactical discipline has become the foundation for my academic work at Kennesaw State, where I explore how narratives of conflict and service shape our human understanding.
As a creative and educator, I leverage this unique duality to approach complex challenges with both rigorous logic and empathetic insight. My work isn’t just about documenting emergencies or analyzing war poetry—it’s about uncovering the human thread that connects every story. I am dedicated to bridging the gap between action and reflection, using my experiences in the field to educate, inspire, and drive meaningful impact.
Values & Philosophy
Foundation of Integrity
I ground my work in integrity, whether I’m on a call as a firefighter or writing in the classroom. Both roles demand honesty, responsibility, and a commitment to doing the right thing when it matters most. That same mindset guides how I learn, create, and collaborate.
Analytical Rigor
My path through different majors and into a specialized career has trained me to think critically and question assumptions. From reading complex texts to documenting high‑acuity events, I’ve learned to look closely at details, patterns, and causes. I bring that analytical lens to every project I take on.
Human-Centric Impact
World Literature and poetry about war showed me how language can capture emotion, trauma, and hope. Firefighting showed me those same emotions in real life. Together, they shaped a philosophy centered on people first—understanding their stories, needs, and fears, and using my skills to make a real, human impact in both my academic and professional work.
